As crazy as the malls may be and as easy as it is to shop on line, as I prepare to do my own Christmas shopping, I consider my personal values. There is a poster in the front window of Creative Art & Frame which says, “Thank you for supporting local, independent Canadian business”. As much as I can, that is what I plan on doing.
I am a long time member of the London Executive Association which has a membership of over 80 businesses; I put those companies on the top of my list for shopping purchases. I volunteer at Museum London and I know that their gift shop is filled with beautiful things. Unity of London, where I attend church, has an inspiring bookstore with great books, perfect for my grand nieces and nephews. And as always I make some little treat for my friends – last year it was a spice mix for roasted vegetables and for vegetable dip.
I encourage each of you to consider what you can do to support local business to keep jobs and profits here in London. Our local retailers work hard to provide excellent quality products at a competitive price. At Creative Art & Frame, we have a wide variety of art work by Canadian artists and great Christmas gift giving ideas.
Elizabeth Tonner Keats has returned to the London area after spending a few years up in Muskoka. Her beautiful forest watercolours are striking with a feeling of an updated Group of Seven style.
Creative Art & Frame has the exclusive rights to the remaining limited edition
prints signed by the late local artist Klaas Verboom who passed away during the summer of 2006. There are 13 different images for sale including Forest’s Edge (51 available) and River Bank (22 available), two small limited editions produced in 1986 and rediscovered in Verboom’s studio. A working artist for over 35 years, Verboom’s work is collected internationally and commands respect and the high prices that go with that admiration. Originally from the London area, he often painted local scenes, many of water.
Stephen Kitras began working as a glass blower in 1988. He studied at Sheridan College in
Oakville. For five years he worked alone handling all of the production and administrative tasks. He and his wife Elke shipped the product from their dining room table in Fergus. In 1994 Kitras Art Glass was formed in Elora. Kitras produces a wide variety of glass products but their Tree of Enchantment glass globes are colourful, bright and a perfect gift for $25.
For most people, the holiday seasons bring warm memories from years past. This is very evident in the works of well-known artist Trisha Romance. Romance’s newest limited edition collection, Country Romance consists of 6 images which define Trisha’s earlier works of art when she and her family lived in rural Ontario. Romance has also released her first 12 month calendar which includes many of her most popular prints.
Christmas is also the time to remember the passions of your life – like golf. London photographer Shaun McGill has shot breathtaking images of picturesque golf holes in all four seasons which he merged together to form a wonderful panorama. Creative Art & Frame is the exclusive dealer for these limited edition photographs which include Sunningdale, Westhaven, Indian Hills, the Oaks, Firerock, RiverBend and the Hunt Club. Shaun also released Greenhills, Highland and a second Hunt Club scene which includes the club house.
Sparkling snow and brisk winter air usher in a special time when family and
friends join together and share in the excitement and traditions of the holidays. If a family photograph is on your wish list, Creative Art & Frame can use your own digital files to produce a high quality print or canvas in a variety of sizes. Framed or stretched, these photos can be enjoyed for many years to come.
Christmas is a time for giving from your heart so consider supporting your friends and neighbours by shopping locally and supporting independent Canadian businesses.
